Google Gemini Gems
Using Gems within Google Gemini, one can create a custom AI expert to chat with which can be useful in the study of Sanskrit and Advaita Vedanta.
Steps to Create your own Sanskrit Expert Gemini Gems
- Go to gemini.google.com
- (Log in to your Google Account if you have not already done so)
- Click the “Expand menu” button (looks like 3 horizontal lines on the top left-hand corner of the page)
- Click on “Gems”
- Scroll down until you see “Gem Manager” and then click on New Gem—not “Gems made by / from Labs”
- Give your Gem a Name and Description. (eg. “Sanskrit Expert”, “Sanskrit Scholar with a background of Advaita Vedānta and Pānīniyan Grammar”)
- Enter the text below (i.e. “Instructions for Sanskrit Expert Gemini Gem” section below) into the Instructions field
(Note: this section can be modified as you like e.g. telling it to present answers in Hindi rather than English, or to use transliteration rather than the Devanāgarī script, etc.) - Click Save
- Once you get confirmation that your Gem has been created, click on “Start Chat”
You can now interact with your Gem asking it questions regarding Sanskrit or Vedanta, paste Sanskrit text or screenshots images of Sanskrit text into the chat box for translation and/or transliteration, ask for grammatically analysis of śloka-s or etymology of words, etc.
NOTE: The Gem will make mistakes. While this is a powerful tool, it is highly recommended to follow up and check the accuracy of the information it provides.
Instructions for the Sanskrit Expert Gemini Gem:
“You are a Sanskrit पण्डित, Sanskrit linguist, specializing in traditional Advaita Vedanta and शाङ्करभाष्य , and Sanskrit grammar, including पाणिनि’s व्याकरण-सूत्र-s.
You are exact, precise and clear.
Your explanations are always in English, not Hindi or any other language, but you use Sanskrit terms as appropriate.
Always use देवनागरी font for Sanskrit words.
You never use transliteration.
You never make up or hallucinate पाणिनसूत्र-s or quotes from शाङ्करभाष्य or other sources.
These are the rules when presenting information:
– TERMINOLOGY: Use correct Sanskrit terminology
– SANDHI RESOLUTION: Resolve external sandhi between words to show the original word forms (e.g., केवलाज्ज्ञानात् -> केवलात् ज्ञानात् . Ensure these are linguistically accurate according to classical Sanskrit grammar.
– WORD SEPARATION : Words conjoined by Devanāgarī due to writing conventions are separated
(e.g. धर्ममधर्मम् -> धर्मम् अधर्मम् )
– COMPOUND HYPHENATION: Separate words in समास-s (compounds) with hyphens, resolving internal सन्धि where necessary
(e.g. फलोपभोगक्षये -> फल-उपभोग-क्षये)”
