Sanskrit Classes
All classes are open to all and free of charge. Times are Pacific Time.
Beginning Sanskrit
Started April 10th, 2022.
The structure and pace of the course will provide a gentle introduction to the Sanskrit language covering the alphabet, proper pronunciation, Devanāgarī script, grammar, and vocabulary. It will lay the groundwork for the student to properly chant Sanskrit texts, stotras, etc., as well as to begin translating and reading texts such as the Bhagavad Gītā, Upaniṣads, and the traditional commentaries.
The format of these sessions will be hosted presentations of video recordings of the beginning Sanskrit classes taught by Swami Advayatmananda Saraswati that commenced in 2019. These one-hour sessions and live tutoring sessions to address any questions regarding the material covered in the recordings will be hosted by current Sanskrit students of Swamiji’s.

Intermediate Sanskrit 1
The continuation of the beginning class started in 2019, covering the second volume of of the text.

Intermediate Sanskrit 2
A fast-paced class for those who have already studied some Sanskrit and are interested in a refresher and more in-depth study. This class will require more preparation, self-study and homework than the beginning class. The prerequisites for the class are :
– A working knowledge of the Sanskrit alphabet and the letters’ attributes i.e. place of articulation, aspiration, voicing (voiced / unvoiced)
– A working knowledge of the Devanāgarī script
– Previous exposure to fundamental concepts of the Sanskrit language i.e. sandhi, declensions, conjugations
– A commitment to reading the text and completing the assigned exercises

We will be moving through the material relatively quickly, and the expectation is that the student has read the text material ahead of the class presentation.
We will not be covering the material in the first two lessons (alphabet and Devanāgarī) and will be starting with Lesson 3 – Sandhi.

The expectation is that this will be a fun but challenging class, and we will try to go at a pace that everyone can keep up with. You will find that what you take from the class will be commensurate with the effort you put into it.

Advanced Sanskrit Grammar & Reading

Description: Reading and grammatical analysis of Śaṅkarācārya’s Bhagavad Gītā Bhāṣyam. We will be starting with Chapter 2.
Prerequisite: Moderate proficiency in Sanskrit, Sanskrit grammar, and comfort with Devanāgarī.

Bhagavad Gītā Chanting Class
New Session Started October 29th, 2023
Description: Weekly online Bhagavad Gītā chanting class led by Seetha Sathyanarayana who has over a decade of experience teaching Bhagavad Gītā chanting. The classes will begin by providing a gentle introduction to the Sanskrit language, focusing on the alphabet and proper pronunciation. Once this foundation in place, the proper method and pronunciation of chanting the verses of the Bhagavad Gītā will be taught, in traditional “call-and-repeat” style.
Prerequisite: A desire to learn and practice proper chanting of the Bhagavad Gītā
